Diversity Reflection in the Village (Part 1): Religious Harmony in Klepu

This spirit of interfaith harmony has been consistently embodied in the daily lives of the people of Klepu. They coexist, understand, and respect one another while maintaining their differences, without emphasizing or segregating based on religion. They firmly believe that living side by side and fostering unity is a fundamental human imperative that cannot be ignored.

This is why anyone attempting to disrupt the peaceful, safe, and harmonious life in Klepu would undoubtedly be rejected. The community upholds this coexistence and unity through various cultural practices such as village cleanliness campaigns, “tingkeban” ceremonies (a Javanese tradition for pregnant women), rituals related to birth and death, and more. Friends from IAIN Ponorogo refer to this community as “Muhamadinuka,” an abbreviation of Muhammadiyah, NU, and Catholicism.
