Thus, when I was staying in the 2000s, I was reminded of the life of Kiai Ahmad Basyir, who was so simple in his clothes. As I recall, while I was at the Annuqayah pesantren, I could say I had never seen him in colourful clothes. It indicates how simple Kiai’s personality is so that the way he dresses does not appear luxurious.
Likewise, in his daily life, He is very active in reviewing his students, even almost every night; he is used to controlling the students, from filling water in the bathroom, watering flowers, to checking the front yard that is still dirty.
So from there, it appears that he not only teaches simplicity but also teaches discipline for students. The discipline he taught through the method of steadfastness in congregational prayers at all times was never abandoned. As I recall, since he was staying at Annuqayah, he never left the congregational prayer with the students.
Actually, in terms of Kiai Ahmad Basyir’s consistency in congregational prayers, there is a precious lesson for all Latee students. Thus, I once received a will from one of the teachers, namely KH Ahmad Dumairi, the caretaker of the Tanwirul Hija pesantren. He said, “The key to getting blessings at Pondok Latee is only one, which is to be istikamah in congregational prayers for 40 consecutive days.”
